What is Instructional Design?

Instructional Design is significantly more than creating videos and courses. It is a methodology to create full learning experiences.

As Instructional Designers, we use adult learning theories to analyze and solve problems. This analytical process will uncover true organizational and performance goals; critical thinking will confirm if these goals can be successfully reached with training.  When they can, learning objectives are aligned, and clarity is given on how to measure success. It is then at this point effective solutions can be designed and developed.  

The design and development phase can be extensive. Communication extends not only to major stakeholders, but also with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) and the actual learners. Content is strategically managed to eliminate cognitive overload. Numerous iterations are completed to ensure the objectives are successfully met.

The process doesn’t stop once the design and development are finished. Assessments and evaluations are executed to ensure performance and organizational goals are achieved. A plan to reinforce training over time is also implemented to gain high knowledge retention.

It is a consistent and reliable process to assist learners retain knowledge.

    First and foremost, problems and goals are identified. Secondly, innovative training courses and materials are designed and developed. Thirdly, these materials are evaluated and assessed to ensure the problem is solved. Fourthly, reinforcement is planned for long-term knowledge retention.

Our primary list includes Articulate 360 (Storyline & Rise), Audacity, ELB Lectora, Canva Pro, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Snagit, and Smartsheet. We are familiar with Adobe InDesign, Vyond, and several Learning Management Systems like Moodle and a few project management programs like Trello.

    Yes, AI is embraced. Right now, AI is predominantly used to assist with brainstorming ideas; to spark our creativity when we start a project with a blank slate. Rest assured, we will never lose our human touch!

  • We prefer to NOT be an expert in your industry. Coming into an environment as a non-expert will bring different perspectives and new ideas to light. We work with your Subject Matter Experts and combine our learning expertise to create remarkable solutions. We have completed successful projects within numerous industries including travel, medical devices, and higher education.
